Shin Jiwon
Mountain of Light
This work presents a mountainous form constructed from layered fragments of mother-of-pearl, assembled within a wooden enclosure. The surface is built through rhythmic lines and accumulated pieces that resemble geological strata, allowing light to flow across the form like shifting terrain. Depending on the angle of view, the structure alternates between solidity and translucence. Rather than depicting a specific landscape, the work evokes a quiet topography of light—where material, depth, and time are slowly revealed through sustained observation.
