Shin Jiwon
Bloom
This work presents a layered composition of peonies unfolding through repetition, rhythm, and vibrant color. Vertical lines structure the surface, allowing fragments of mother-of-pearl to emerge subtly beneath the painted layers. Rather than depicting flowers as a single moment of bloom, the composition suggests sustained vitality—growth that unfolds gradually through accumulation and restraint. Light shifts across the surface as the viewer moves, revealing depth, texture, and quiet luminosity. As part of the Mother-of-Pearl Series, the work explores the relationship between material and time, where natural fragments and rhythmic structure together evoke persistence, presence, and inner vitality.
